The West Oxford branch of the u3a, (the University of the Third Age), was created in 1995. u3a is a UK-wide movement of locally run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together to learn and for fun and friendship.
We host talks by professional speakers on the second and fourth Monday of each month except for July, August and December. Click here for details of past and forthcoming talks.
Our membership year starts in September and once the membership fee is paid there is no further charge. Non-members (visitors) are invited to make a donation. Membership of West Oxford u3a does not cover membership of Oxford u3a or Headington u3a.Click here for West Oxford u3a Membership details
The fortnightly meetings take place at Dean Court Community Centre, Pinnocks Way, Botley Click here for directions. The proceedings start at 2.15 pm and (fairly short) notices are given before or after a talk as set out on our programme. Tea and biscuits are always served after the talk, and we stay and use this time to get to know new people and meet friends.
Our twice monthly meetings are an important part of what we do, but so are our Special Interest Groups – SIGs for short – which members with an interest in particular subjects or activities can join as part of their subscription. You can be a member of as many SIGs as you like – or even start a new one. SIGs generally meet in member’s homes – or at an easily identifiable place for outdoor gatherings.
Collective learning is the primary purpose of the u3a movement, but an equally important aspect of the SIGs is the opportunity they provide for members to make new friends and enjoy themselves.
Currently we have nine SIGs – some long-running, some recently formed. To view recent and forthcoming events and for contact details click here.
